CHRONORAMA: Photographic Treasures of the 20th Century

CHRONORAMA gathers over four hundred key photographic works from the 1910s to the end of the 1970s from the Pinault Collection and the Condé Nast Archives. Originally published in an editorial context these photographs are now displayed as individual artworks, all of them foundational to the Western visual culture of the 20th century.  Captured by the century’s great photographers, these works represent social ideals of elegance and taste as well as underground cultures, all building a mosaic of the cultural vibrancy of each decade. These images are a testimony of collaboration between editors, photographers and sitters that defined and transformed desire, expression and aspiration through the power of the image.

A rich account of the development of fashion, urbanism and social relationships this exhibition brings together work by some of the most longstanding artists on our roster such as Irving Penn, Helmut Newton or Horst P. Horst among others.
