Erwin Olaf: Recent Works

24 October - 22 November 2008

In 2008, Hamiltons proudly became the UK gallery representative for Erwin Olaf. In recognition of this, Hamiltons exhibited Recent Works, an instalment of Olaf's trilogy Rain, Hope, and Grief, centring on the suspended moment when emotional reaction begins. It is described by Olaf as an instant of indecision or consideration, the "half-second after you receive bad news but before you react". Grief, for example, focuses on the silently fought battle between gut-wrenching sorrow and socially constructed notions of dignity and poise.

In Recent Works, Olaf encourages the observer to empathise with the fragile beauty of these characters and to unlock the connectedness we share with our fellow beings.
