Hamiltons proudly presents an exhibition of works by American sculptor, Jedd Novatt.  The exhibition is co curated with Flora Fairbairn who directed -scopeLondon 2004 and curated ‘Young Masters’ in collaboration with Art Fortnight London 2005.

Working in bronze, Novatt’s sculptures push towards complexity and break free from the traditions of minimalism.  Although influenced by a multitude of artists, Novatt is particularly interested in the Basque sculptor Jorge Oteiza, the teacher of Eduardo Chillida, who represented a move from expressionism to abstraction.

Novatt’s sculptures range in scale from intimate tabletop pieces to monumental works reaching twenty foot high.  The sculptures within this exhibition stand between fourteen inches to thirty-three inches tall.  Novatt, who is also represented in Paris, Milan and New York and collected internationally, has entitled the series ‘Chaos’.

"To reflect the counterintuitive order in Chaos my work relies ultimately on completely random acts of faith... arrival; to force the viewer to stop, observe and see; without any obvious connection to political or social phenomenon.  The Greeks defined Chaos as the nothingness out of which the first objects of existence appeared - sky, earth and the sea. A space lacking in orientation and order, yet out of which emerges all that makes up our collective experience with scale and finally form."  Novatt.
